The Wapiti Long House is a private, stand-alone building just steps from the main lodge, offering nearly 1,500 square feet of versatile indoor space. Added to the property in 1998, it features wood-beam vaulted ceilings and seamless access to the wrapping outdoor balcony, effectively blending indoor and outdoor spaces.
A Name Rooted in Meaning: The name Wapiti comes from the Cree and Shawnee word for elk. Elk have roamed the Banff region for centuries and are deeply rooted in the Indigenous traditions and cultures of the land—symbolizing strength, endurance, and the interconnectedness of nature. Much like the elk that have long gathered in the Bow Valley, the Wapiti Long House is a gathering place—where shared experiences honour the land, its history, and the wildlife that has always called Buffalo Mountain Lodge home.
