Whether you’re planning a lengthy getaway, or a short mini-moon before larger plans in the future, a trip to the Canadian Rockies is great for couples looking for adventure, or just a place to retreat and get some much-needed quiet time after the big day. To help you start planning the perfect escape, here are three ways to get the most out of your romantic getaway in the mountains.

1. Take advantage of the endless activities at your disposal

Honeymoons don’t always have to mean lying on a beach drinking sangria day in, day out. Some of the best honeymoons combine a sense of fun and adventure that you can both enjoy, no matter the season.

Banff Activities

In the Banff area, couples can enjoy several activities at their own pace. There are numerous hikes in the area to try, including the Tunnel Mountain hike that is minutes away from Buffalo Mountain Lodge.

Other options include canoe ridesbiking trailsgondola and chair lift rides at the surrounding ski hills in the summer as well as horseback riding for those seeking a little extra adventure!

Lake Louise Activities

For couples spending time in Lake Louise, there are endless opportunities to enjoy the surrounding area with hikes to Lake AgnesMoraine Lake and Larch Valley. If spending time around the lake peaks your interest, rent a canoe from the boathouse at Lake Louise in the summer or glide around on skates in the winter.

Emerald Lake/Field Activities

After making the trip to see the gorgeous waters of Emerald Lake, couples can rent a canoe by the hour or day to immerse themselves in the full mountain experience. If you are interested in touring around the Yoho National Park, take the short drive to the stunning Natural Bridge, located 8km from Emerald Lake Lodge, or Takkakkaw Falls less than 20km from the town of Field.

2. Book yourselves into a cozy and romantic room and forget the rest

For many couples, the perfect accommodation is what makes all the difference during the honeymoon, especially when it’s paired with wonderful and unique amenities.

At Emerald Lake Lodge and Buffalo Mountain Lodge, you and your sweetheart can enjoy a glass of wine in front of the in-room fireplaces, or spend time cozied by the grand fireplace in the sitting room at Deer Lodge. Across all three hotels, couples can spend time sitting under the stars in the outdoor hot tubs, warming up in the wood saunas, or simply strolling around the lodge and surrounding areas to take photos and enjoy the fresh air before setting out for a day of activities.

To make the stay even more memorable for your new life partner, you can arrange a bottle of wine or charcuterie plate to be delivered to the room upon arrival.

3. Indulge in Rocky Mountain Cuisine you’ll both love

A detail that certainly can’t be overlooked when planning a honeymoon is the food you will try during your stay, and what better place to fully experience true Canadian Cuisine than in the heart of the Rockies.

Across all three CRMR lodges in BanffLake Louise and Field, chefs are busy preparing everything from Elk, Bison and Caribou to Alberta-raised beef, lamb and duck. All you need is a bottle of wine to share and a great conversation to get lost in.

Now set some much-needed time aside for yourselves and start your marriage and new life together in the most special way possible. Congratulations on this wonderful milestone and cheers to you.
